Project Conceptualization & Visualization

We specialize in conceptual design packages that assist owners in assessing the viability and opportunities inherent in a project. Conceptual design reports focus on establishing overall planning strategies and metrics necessary to establish a project pro forma, while also providing preliminary renderings that describe the character of a place and assist with preliminary marketing efforts. These design efforts are strategic and efficient, thus minimizing up-front development costs.

Architectural Design

We have extensive experience on a broad range of architectural project types and sizes, utilizing our emphasis on research to identify the key issues and challenges inherent to each commission. We are comfortable operating as architect-of-record as well as design architect in association with a partner firm. In either capacity, we are focused on achieving our clients’ goals by delivering unique and exciting buildings that acknowledge their purpose and resonate with their surrounding context.

Interior Design

We have executed interior design projects for Fortune 500 corporations as well as small independent companies. In all cases, we strive to understand the patterns of use and relationships inherent in an organization and utilize this knowledge to create spaces that are efficient and enhance productivity. At the same time, we leverage our understanding of each clients’ culture and mission to design spaces that engage and inspire their users.

Master Planning

We have broad experience planning complex projects with diverse programmatic requirements and complex site constraints. We believe good planning is the foundation of good design and consequently we approach planning projects with similar strategies to those we employ in our architecture and interior design projects. We create master plans that establish clear and efficient systems of infrastructure, while also defining powerful experiences that constitute a dynamic fabric of experiences.

Lectures and Publications

plexus r+d has consistently been recognized by the media as a leading creative design firm. We were selected by Architectural Record as a member of the Design Vanguard, an acknowledgement of our emphasis on using thoughtful and innovative design strategies to enhance our clients’ experiences while simultaneously revealing the significant roles architecture and design play in enriching our lives. We have presented numerous lectures which seek to blur the line between the static presentation of work, and the active experience of intention and content.

Installations

We have created numerous installations that explore our design strategies and ideas at a more intimate scale and in a language that bridges architecture and interior design with the artistic disciplines. With each installation, our goal is to reframe our ideas and work in a manner that allows us to discover something new and convey this sense of discovery to the observer.

Affiliated Activities

Software Development

We are currently working with development partners to create a powerful software application that allows designers to experience and move through projects in an immersive manner and in real time. The goal is to reduce the time necessary to create still renderings and animations which are used as tools to assess a design. The application will also be a powerful presentation tool that allows designers and clients to move through a project in an unscripted and spontaneous manner, thus empowering the user to explore a project on their own terms.

Creative Content

We are involved in the development of collateral creative content related to our architectural investigations. We recently participated in the History Channels’ City of the Future design competition, which charged competitors with envisioning cities 100 years in the future.

Currently, we are developing gaming environments that leverage our creativity and understanding of design not just as the production of objects, but as the articulation of experiences.
